Can we all agree that parts of speech matter? Yes, adjectives can act as nouns, and nouns can act as adjectives, but for the most part, parts of speech aren’t randomly assigned with no import.

I want to be shocked by this dearth of intelligence, but in a world where we say “he text me last night” instead of “he texted me last night” how can I be surprised?
