An Aside

It’s NaNo time again: National Novel Writing Month, 50,000 words in 30 days, which breaks down to just about 1667 words per day. It sounds so simple, until you try to focus on it. I’ve halfheartedly tried to complete NaNo most years since 2005, but I haven’t finished yet. Usually, something happens which suddenly demands all my attention, like getting a new teaching job or deciding to move my wedding up three months or dealing with all of the life.

So, here’s to this year’s attempt. So far, two days in I’m at a total word count of 3401 (tracking slightly ahead), so maybe this is the year! I just have to keep reminding myself it’s National Novel Writing Month, editing comes later.
